“National singer” project was launched in July of 2007 on “Shant” TV. The aim of this project was discovering new young talents in the sphere of singing national and songs of ashughs and their further training.
Hearings in Gyumry and Yerevan were organized at the primary stage. Nearly 400 young people applied for participating in the project. The jury of the project, consisting of Honored national artists of RA, singer Leyla Saribekyan, artist Azat Gasparyan duduk player Gevorg Dabaghyan and singer Arsen Grigoryan, listened to their performances carefully.
In the result of multistep hearings 14 young people were chosen to open the stage of final gala concerts and to participate in the project.

The entire number of the concerts was 12, and after each concert the televiewer could vote for his favorite contestant during 24 hours. The contestant, having the least votes, had to leave the project.
The concerts were aired every Sunday and the summary of the voting results was on Monday with a life transmission.
By the way, it is important to note that after each of the 12 concerts, one of the final triple, Sevak Amroyan, Narek Poghosyan or Armen Davtyan, was in the first place by voting results.
The audience had to choose between those three contestants to be the national singer or the winner of the project. The final voting lasted a week instead of a day. Finally, on the 4th of November, Sevak Amroyan was recognized the winner before the huge audience during a life transmission on “Shant” TV.

The first stage of the project is over but the contestant are still in the centre of attention of the audience.
In November of 2007 the project with its full staff held concerts in Gyumry 4 times, 2 big concerts in Yerevan, Aram Khachatryan Big Concert Hall, in December. All these concerts were organized with the accompaniment of “Sayat Nova” ashugh songs orchestra group, headed by professor Tovmas Poghosyan.
And on the 9th and 10th of March, 2008, a big concert with a new program was presented to the audience, together with Armenian State Folk Music Instruments (artistic tutor professor Norayr Davtyan)
“National singer” project continues its activities in several directions at the moment.
• “National singer 2” is being worked out, the primary hearings of which will be held in Yerevan, Gyumry, Vanadzor, Gavar and Los Angeles.
• New CDs and DVDs are being prepared with audio and video records of National singer“ Yerevan concert.
• Soon, on the 30th of March, the first concert abroad will be held in Los Angeles.
